Boxing Day Road Race
These past few months have been a very testing time for all of us, and especially for all sports and training groups.
Unfortunately as we now face a period of further restrictions and although it appears that England Athletics remain happy with the current level of organised training sessions, a return to organised racing looks to have taken a further step away. Therefore, unfortunately after several weeks of head-scratching for alternative methods of holding the event a decision has now been made to cancel this year's Boxing Day Road Race, for the first time in the 43 years we have held the event.
This is really sad news and breaks a huge tradition for Clevedon, but the logistics of holding the race in wave starts, implementing social distancing at the finish area, cancelling on-the-day entries and not having the Little Harp race HQ render the event virtually impossible to hold. We would also need considerably more marshals, toilet facilities and safeguarding measures to adhere to stringent guidelines that would need to be in place.
The safety of our runners and spectators is our top priority and therefore this difficult decision is the only realistic outcome.
We thank everyone for their support and attendance over the years and hope to see you all in 2021 to resume our Christmas tradition.
Congratulations to everyone that took part in the 2019 Boxing Day Races. Provisional results are now online for the senior and junior events. Final results will be available as soon as everything has been checked.
Like the Olympics, the 5k to 10k Improvers Course planned for this year has now been suspended until 2021.
Clevedon Athletic Club will be running a 5k to 10k Improvers Course, aimed at anyone who can run 5km and wants to get better. If you enjoy Parkrun, have completed a Couch to 5k course, or just likes running a few miles for fun, this course will help you improve your fitness, form and finish times.
Clevedon Athletic Club is a thriving and friendly running club, based on the North Somerset coast-line 12 miles from the City of Bristol.
Formed in May 1977, we have gone from strength to strength and are now a major force to be reckoned with in the South West, regularly producing notable success on the road as well as team achievements in Relays and Cross Country leagues.
The club caters for all abilities from the age of 15 years and upwards. The training is geared to your individual goals; working within a team environment to enable you to reach your potential.
Club training nights are held on Tuesday (summertime we meet at Clevedon Community School where our session is geared around the running track) and Thursday evenings throughout the year, meeting at Clevedon’s Strode Leisure Centre just before 7:00pm by the club notice board, as well as irregular sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
We have organised the prestigious Clevedon 4 Mile Boxing Day Race since 1977 which now attracts 1,000 competitors, as well as the Midsummer 10k and the North Somerset Road Relays. In 2014 we jointly launched the new Court Wood 5k series in conjunction with the Clevedon School sports department.
Our aim is to promote an enjoyable and rewarding interest in athletics for runners of all abilities in a safe and friendly team environment.
New members are always welcome. Just contact any of the Committee for further details.
