🏅 Weekend Race Round Up 🏅

London Marathon, Butcombe Trail Ultras, Parkrun Milestone

London Marathon: Sam Twine was the lucky winner in the ballot for our allocated club place this year. It was Sam’s first marathon and he was delighted to finish in a fantastic time of 3:02:35. Here’s the event in Sam’s words:

“For my first marathon it was an amazing event and really cool thing to be a part of. My plan had been to start out on pace for 3:05, get to 30k in good shape and then build to the line. It was very busy at the start but I didn’t mind too much as I was planning to run a bit lighter at this stage. I concentrated on the faces in the crowd and soaked in the atmosphere. It was great seeing other club members and familiar faces out on the course. I found it made me feel like a rockstar being part of the event with so many spectators shouting for you!

I’m pleased I listened to my body and adjusted my plan during the race, the most important thing is to finish your first marathon after all! I’m really proud of the way my race went and my even splits throughout. I enjoyed my marathon training block and learned a lot during it.”

Conditions were warm but everyone had a great race and really enjoyed the day. Also taking part were Theresa Goldstone 4:04:18, Tom Gange 3:04:37 and Tim Nabosi 2:50:31.

Well done all, a wonderful achievement!

Butcombe Trail Ultramarathon: on Saturday, three club members headed to the Mendip Hills for the popular Butcombe Trail races. Tom Abrahams competed in the 50k event, a new distance for 2025, finishing in 12th position in 5:32. Mark Williams and James Foster took part in the 50 Mile event, with Mark crossing the line in 4th position in 8:47 followed by James in 10:31.

Excellent efforts all round!

Parkrun Milestone: Congratulations to Eloise, who completed her 250th Parkrun on Saturday! Fellow club mates joined Eloise at the Salthouse Fields to celebrate her milestone.
