Simon heads for the hills!

West Country Ultra Hilly 50 Miler – Saturday 13th May

Keen trail runner Simon Dodd traveled down to Minehead on Saturday to take part in the West Country Ultra Hilly 50, a 50ish mile Ultramarathon taking in some of the finest scenery Exmoor has to offer.

Taking in some of Exmoor’s epic hills, the route includes Bossington hill, Webbers Post and Dunkery Beacon – the highest point in Southern England outside of Dartmoor.

Simon used his experience of Ultra races and started off easy, gradually settling into a steady pace, hiking the hills and running as much of the rest as possible. Despite a knee wobble halfway around, once he had got over Dunkery Beacon the tiredness lifted and his knee settled. Simon had a strong finish, passing people on the way and crossed the line in 11 hours and 24 minutes, just sneaking in to the top 10 in 10th place.

Simon was delighted to achieve his first ever top 10 finish and highly recommends the race.
