The final race of the Gloucestershire Cross Country league was held last Saturday at Old Down Country Park. The sunshine was a nice bonus on a hilly course that provides fantastic views across to the Severn Estuary. Roseanna Stanfield, Natalie Southernwood and Elaine Heyes ran first, completing 3 laps of the course. The Men’s race followed with great efforts over 4 laps from Steve Wood, Martin Hewlett, Matt Crocker, Lee Southernwood, Matt Evans and Clive Richards. Prizes for the league were awarded post-race with medals for the Men’s Masters Team (3rd place), Steve Wood (3rd place, MV50 category), Tracy Allan (2nd place, FV55) and Clive Richards (1st place, MV60).
New member Sam Bendall-Weeks represented the club for the first time at the Newport Half Marathon. Sam joined the club at the beginning of the year and has made great progress already, finishing faster than he expected today in 1:41:56. Sam is really pleased with the improvements he is seeing from attending regular training sessions.
Fran Rawlings and Elaine Baillie competed in the Hullavington 20-miler, a picturesque road race and a popular training event for Spring marathons. Both had a great race and Fran was delighted to achieve the prize for 1st Lady in 2:15:43 with Elaine finishing in 3:37:56.
Debbie Powell completed her second event at the Woodlands Running Festival in Texas, this time taking on the Half Marathon distance. Conditions were not ideal, with 88% humidity to contend with, but Debbie dug in and was pleased to finish and to also achieve the 1st Female Grandmaster prize in a time of 1:33:55.
