Drogo 10 and the Brecon Trail Marathon

Well done to Tanya, Tom and Martin who took part in exciting off-road events over the weekend.

On Sunday Tanya competed in the Drogo 10, a 10 mile multi terrain Fell Race that starts and finishes at Castle Drogo. The route takes in views of the stunning Teign Valley with 1,591 feet of elevation!

Tom and Martin headed over to Wales on Saturday for the Brecon Trail Marathon. Tom describes the day….

Starting at Talybont-on-Usk, the route follows the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal for 3 flat and fast miles before the first major climb,Tor y Foel. The course then took on some familiar Welsh Castles territory (the last few miles of Leg 16) before the climb of Pen-y-Fan, shortly after the halfway point. There were a series of technical descents before the route rejoined the canal path just before the end. Conditions were wet underfoot but clear overhead.

Martin handled the descents well and I felt at home on some of the longer climbs. Having run large chunks of the race separately, we found each other side-by-side for the last few hundred metres and finished within a second of each other, Martin in 11th and me in 10th out of 145 finishers (4:37:28). We both enjoyed the challenging but stunning route.

Fantastic running by everyone in tricky conditions!
