Winning relay results!
Uphill to Wells Relay – Saturday 23rd September
Race Report by Adrian John:
2 teams (1 Ladies and 1 Men’s) were entered to take on this tough 5 leg relay race.
Firstly, thanks to Simon Hawkes for sorting the 2 teams.
So off to Uphill we ventured to kick off events, with the ladies starting at 10.30 and the men at 11.15.
First off for the ladies was Robyn Lampon who a year ago was having an ankle op. She has made an amazing recovery and it’s great to have her back training and running with the club – she smashed leg 1 starting, finishing in the lead. Great work Robyn.
Next out for the ladies was Steph James. Mrs Consistent was raring to go, with an amazing run up and over Crooks Peak. Steph had to overcome her worst fear near the end of the run when she had to contend with a herd of cows. Well done on a great time Steph.
Steph handed over to Frankie Crozier and although Leg 3 is horrible, she smashed it. The lady loves a challenge and stepped up when needed to arrive in the Gorge to hand over to Laura Croker. Great work Frankie.
Off went Laura for the first of her 2 legs. Laura was already running Leg 4 but with a late withdrawal of leg 5 runner through illness, Laura kindly and madly offered to run both legs!
Laura makes running look easy and although I missed her going through Priddy, the comments from the people who were there were Laura is looking strong and she’s running well.
First off for the men was Tom Abraham. Mr Reliable again ran a brilliant leg one. Top work Tom and thank you for stepping in for the team at short notice.
Tom handed over to Martin Hewlett, who also smashed Crooks Peak. The guy is immense and so chilled out, great work Martin.
James Foster was next out to take on Leg 3; fair play to him, nothing seems to phase him and off he went. Again smashing the climbs and those lovely steps, a great run into the Gorge to hand over to Matt Evans. Top work James.
Matt ran an amazing leg, overtaking the runner ahead of him to finish the leg 5 minutes in front. Great work Matt.
Next out for the men was Simon Dodd (Mr Long Distance) He ran a great run but was under immense pressure from a rapid guy from Burnham. A great run Simon, top work.
The first Clevedon runner in was Laura, looking like she could continue – fair play to Laura, that was 2 legs of superb running and she was closely followed by Simon.
Well done to all of the nine runners for their tremendous efforts on their legs.
The Men’s team finished 2nd which was a massive achievement as they nearly chased down a very rapid Burnham team. Well done guys on a massive effort and thanks for your support throughout the event.
The Ladies team were delighted to finished in 1st place – great team work!
Another great day supporting Clevedon AC – you should all be proud of they way you ran and supported your club throughout the event.
